Happy spring semester Fashionistos and Fashionistas! My name is Gabriella (Gabby) Lowry and I am a sophomore Advertising, Public Relations and Visual Communications student at Loyola University Chicago and one of your newest Style Gurus. I could not be more thrilled to begin this semester-long journey with you exploring what eye catching trends and styles are most coveted around my campus.
I’m originally from the “best coast” as I like to call it, born and raised just outside of Los Angeles, California. Weekly trips to the beach and being able to count the rainy days in a year on one hand gifted me with a unique upbringing, but blame my love of change and the hype of metropolis as the reason for a move out to the Windy City for college. Living in the vibrant and ever-inspiring city of Chicago has been a blessing to my own personal style and sense of self discovery, and I could not imagine myself living anywhere else.
The obvious contrasts between the easy going bohemian lifestyle of LA and the edgier and more polished city feel of Chicago have come together for me and created a definite eclectic combination in my own taste. A perfect pair of cut-offs, a crisp collar, a colorful lip, oversized cable knit, unkempt hair and ballet flats all encompass different parts of my style that define it in some way. Often, my style is one great contradiction.
You can find me typically shopping at Urban Outfitters (Chicago has a great surplus store in Lincoln Park), J.Crew, Anthropologie and Brandy Melville. I’m on as much a budget as any college student, and like to focus on finding unique and signature pieces I can get the most use out of, my friends and roommates constant raiding of my closet is a testament of that. Designers and models are great, but I like to think that some of my greatest inspiration comes from real and relatable people online with blogs like The Sartorialist, The ManRepeller and Cupcakes and Cashmere.
I’m currently employed by the fabulous retailer Ann Taylor and my managers are constantly telling me to “act like you’re the client’s best friend shopping alongside them.” This is exactly how I want it to be with all of you! I come to you as a friend and confidant who longs to share with you all that I find strolling around Loyola’s campus. My hope is to give you a glimpse of some of the most stylish and on trend people I see and point them out like one of your best friends would.
I can not wait to explore deeper into my own school and hopefully meet some really amazing people along the way.
