STYLE GURU BIO: Gabriela Villanueva

August 31st, 2016 at 2:00am

Hello, world! I am Gabriela Villanueva and I am a sophomore studying towards my bachelor’s in international studies at Ramapo College of New Jersey, which is located in Mahwah, New Jersey.

When I applied to be a Style Guru, I just thought “Hey, this would be a great opportunity and a little fun for this upcoming semester!” Every time my mom speaks to her friends or our family, she always tells of how I would steal her clothes, or wear my sister’s heels. When I would go shopping as a little girl I always had to find the perfect outfit and the right accessories to go with it as well. Fashion was once my major focus. My dream, when I was in high school, was to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.

Being in college has really changed my habits due to the fact that you have more priorities and have to have good time management. I am constantly spending and spending on different things for school, my car, etc., but I have found good stores and online websites that can help me save.

I moved several times during my childhood, but I have lived in the same house for almost ten years now. The fashion here in my hometown has never been extravagant or out of place. In high school, I was never a makeup junkie, maybe a little mascara and lipstick. Recently, my friends have dragged me into the beauty world. My friends always bother me about how much clothes, shoes and accessories I have. Although I am privileged on getting many things, I am and have always been a yoga pants and UGGs type of girl. There are spontaneous days where I go all out and wear a cute outfit. I am normally laying around watching Netflix when I am not out hanging with my friends.

In this look, I am wearing a pretty simple outfit. On the bottom, I am wearing jeans from a boutique in the mall called Body Culture, along with black Birkenstock shoes. These shoes have been my go-to this past summer. My top is a simple black crop from Hollister Co. and to add a little texture, I tied my plaid button-up from Old Navy. Crop tops are the new “in” and pretty much can come in any color. With the sun being out, the only way you can block it is with a pair of my favorite sunglasses, Avalon by Quay. To add a little splash of color I used my Michael Kors “Kellan” tote. Perfect way to either go out to lunch, or an afternoon concert in the park.
