Hello, everyone! My name is Erika Harwood and I am a rising senior studying Art History at the University of Michigan. This summer will be my fourth semester with CollegeFashionista, but my first time writing for the STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK category — frankly, I’ve been telling you all WHAT TO WEAR long enough.
Last spring, I took a semester off from CollegeFashionista to “focus on school,” or something like that. But boy, was the absence of CollegeFashionista palpable. I still often found myself forgoing extra study sessions to watch live streams of fashion week or picking up the latest issue of Vogue when I should have been picking up a book on Michelangelo’s paintings (he was a better sculptor anyway). I eventually filled the void by creating my own style column for The Michigan Daily to tide me over until the beginning of June. So naturally, I’ve been reeled back into the CollegeFashionista world, this time as a Style Guru and an editor, which I couldn’t be more thrilled about.
The beauty of writing during the summer is being able to discover the street style of people walking on a lot of different streets, or rather, well beyond the boundaries of South U and State. I’m able to document the sartorial choices residing on the roads of my travels, wherever those may be the next few months (presumably the greater Midwest, if we’re going to be honest with each other). But luckily, wherever I end up this summer, I’ll have my camera ready for all the noteworthy styles I come across.
