Hey there, fabulous Fashionista/os! My name is Elizabeth Zamudio, Liz for short, and I am from the lovely Midwest. I have the pleasure of attending Illinois State University and I am currently a junior majoring in Apparel Merchandising and Design with a minor in Psychology. Words cannot describe how thrilled I am to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista for the first time this summer.
My unconditional love for fashion began at the young age of five when I would spend time walking around my house wearing my mom’s heels. Growing up, one of my favorite hobbies was picking out images from fashion magazines and creating inspiration collages to hang up in my room. To this day, I seem to have a collection of fashion magazines that I cannot get rid of. As I got older, my love for fashion only continued to grow. I worked my first job in retail at the age of seventeen and fell in love with every aspect of it. Helping customers pick out the latest trends and accessories was a dream come true for me. Just witnessing their satisfaction as they made their purchase was one of the most rewarding feelings I’ve ever encountered. When I began college, however, I was a bit clueless and was indecisive about choosing a career. I wanted a career I would not dread going to every morning. Being a naïve freshman, I was not aware of the endless possibilities in the fashion industry. One day, I realized I was my friends’ personal stylist. They would repeatedly approach me for fashion advice, ask me to choose their accessories to wear to the next formal and even send me selfies trying out outfits. It suddenly hit me. Fashion was my calling. I decided to apply to the major and have not looked back since. Now here I am, looking forward to all of the great opportunities headed my way!
Although I tend to describe my personal style as girly chic with a bit of edge, I do like to mix it up with boho and preppy depending on the occasion and, of course, the season. Some days I love to keep it simple and fresh, while other times big and bold is where it’s at. This happens to be my favorite part about fashion. A person can truly express her feelings and personality through her style of choice. While some people take this form of art for granted, I like to live, breathe and sleep fashion. I am constantly planning outfits for events that may be months away. So grab your cold drink and find a comfy spot on the beach (poolside if you’re from Illinois), Fashionistas, because I will be filling you in on ALL IN THE DETAILS every Friday.
