Let another semester with CollegeFashionista begin! I’ll start by introducing myself. My name is Elizabeth (Liz) Shaffer and I am a sophomore at the University of Delaware studying communications and journalism. This is my second semester on the CollegeFashionista team and I am completely excited to be covering the ACCESSORIES REPORT for my campus this time around. One of my favorite things about being a Style Guru is how it combines three of my biggest interests: writing, fashion and social media. My goal this semester is to amp up my presence on social media to spread the word via the good old internet about CollegeFashionista.
Now let’s talk about the “fashion” part of being a Style Guru. My ideal Sunday afternoon, no matter where in the world I am, would be spent sitting in a comfy chair reading the latest issue of a great fashion magazine (I’ll admit my favorite is Harper’s Bazaar). By the time I’ve finished reading the creative editorial and looking at the beautiful clothing (and models) you’ll find the magazine with half of the page corners folded over, marking all the things I absolutely need to remember. I love to be inspired by fashion. Whether it’s in print, online or in the street, there’s always something new and exciting to be seen and absorbed. I hope I do fashion justice with my stab at trying to inspire you.
Since I’m writing the ACCESSORIES REPORT this semester I gave a lot of thought to what I should wear in my STYLE GURU BIO picture. As I scanned the accessories in my closet wondering “do I wear my trendy chunky necklace?” or “how about my chunky patterned scarf?” something dawned on me. Why not just go with what I know? I am a big believer in investing in staple accessories that you love and can wear all the time. On any given day you’ll see me in my chestnut riding boots, carrying a gigantic tote bag, wearing my simple necklaces, a chic watch and killer shades. Oh, and let’s not forget the coat because it’s always important to stay warm while looking cute at the same time.
I think my accessories reflect my overall style. I usually gravitate towards a classic, put-together, simple look. Lately I’ve been into the “less is more” mentality when it comes to fashion. I like understated, chic styles. I read something recently that said the reason our favorite Fashionistas (think Kate Moss) dress so cool is because they don’t look like they are trying too hard. They make their style effortless. This is like the ultimate Fashionista challenge: look fabulous without looking like you’re trying to look fabulous.
Ok, time to wrap it up. I invite you back every Friday to read my ACCESSORIES REPORT! And now I’ll leave you with my favorite fashion mantra: “Be confident, be inspired and have fun!”
