STYLE GURU BIO: Eleni De Castro

January 5th, 2015 at 2:00am

My name is Eleni De Castro and I am currently a junior pursuing a degree in Public Relations at Penn State University. I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to write for CollegeFashionista this upcoming semester!

I am originally from the Dominican Republic, but I also lived in London when I was younger and have now been living in the United States for three years. I have always loved fashion and style, but living in a country with year-round tropical weather does not exactly lend itself to an evolving wardrobe. Now that I get to experience four different seasons, I have been able to experiment with different looks and pieces in order to survive the constantly changing weather, which I absolutely love.

My biggest passion is traveling and I have been lucky enough to travel all around Europe and Asia, as well as North America with my two older sisters. This is definitely my biggest source of inspiration when it comes to fashion. Each country has such a unique sense of style and getting to experience them has allowed me to see what a large array of inspiration exists around the world.

In college, I am known as the girl who like to dress up no matter where I go. I feel my best and think I am able to accomplish more when I am well put together. For me, style is not just about clothes and purses, it is how you want the world to perceive you and a great way to show who you are. I have only recently joined United States culture, so casual wear outside the house is still a novel and interesting concept for me. Even though I know how important it is for busy college students to dress comfortably, I believe there is a way to do it without having to don a pair of sweatpants. Hopefully I’ll be able to give all of you some ideas on how to do this and more throughout my weekly articles.

I hope that this semester I am able to inspire some of you to go out there and experiment with your clothes and style. I think you’ll find that it is not as scary as it seems once you give it a chance. Be daring with your style choices and never be afraid to stand out no matter how big or small your school is.

I look forward to seeing you all around campus!
