Hi Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Elana R. Katz and I am a self-proclaimed denim enthusiast who can never say “no” to a collar necklace. I am currently a senior at Union College in Schenectady, New York studying History with a double minor in Film Studies and Theater. When I am not studying, you can find me obsessively watching an excessive amount of The Mindy Project or checking the Humans of New York Instagram feed.
Throughout my last three years at Union I have made it a goal to hone my personal style as well as my creative and artistic skills. I have always had an affinity for fashion, which led me to some bold statements and questionable choices such as plaid pants at the ripe age of eight-years-old. However, as I have grown, so have my personal style and wardrobe. Today, I am almost always wearing something simple with a little bit of edge. Just like this ensemble: a denim shirt paired with a cream Vince sweater, classic pair of black jeans and a Pam Hiran collar necklace for that extra spark. I feel as if I have finally caught my stride and that my ensembles reflect who I truly am. Furthermore, whether I am writing for the Arts section of the school newspaper, assisting the costume designer on the latest production in the theater or reading my favorite fashion blogs such as Cupcakes and Cashmere or The Man Repeller, my goal has been the same: to learn and write about the style that surrounds me.
That is why, I am excited for another semester interning with CollegeFashionista. In the summer of 2013, I enjoyed writing the FASHIONISTA/O SPOTLIGHT column. Scouting the perfect ensemble and writing for this section enabled me to showcase some of Union College’s best dressed and share them with other fashion enthusiasts. I really enjoyed getting to know the Fashionistas/os I interviewed as well as understanding their sense of personal style.
This semester I will be writing the ACCESSORIES REPORT column and it is a dream come true. I have always been an accessories girl. Even as a child when I would play dress-up, I had to have the perfect pair of clip-on earrings. Cut to my senior year of college and I still strive to jazz up any outfit with a necklace, scarf or headband. Though Union’s climate is often akin to that of a tundra, I hope to showcase a wide variety of accessories throughout my internship. I believe that accessories are a crucial part of the overall look and I am excited to give them the focus and attention they deserve. Mostly, I can’t wait to share the best of accessories from Union College with all of you.
