After spending three semesters writing for CollegeFashionista, I have gained the opportunity to fully explore my love for fashion. I am currently a second semester senior at Brown University, double concentrating in Gender and Sexuality Studies and Visual Art. Being a Style Guru has allowed me to spend time viewing gorgeous collections, and in February and September I can be found drooling over the amazing designs that grace the runways everywhere from New York to Milan. I enjoy watching designers evolve and understanding the ways that trends interact.
But, my favorite part of fashion is seeing how people interpret these trends on the streets, especially on Brown’s campus. It is exciting to see a runway trend come to life through a stylish classmate, and it is equally exciting to see peers who make their own trends through reclaimed thrift store steals and pieces that they have created themselves.
Learning about fashion from my peers is one of the best parts of being a Style Guru. For the past three semesters, I have been lucky to meet and speak with students with a common interest in this form of self-expression. Through these brief discussions, I have discovered unconventional trends with which to experiment and learned about new stores to shop. They have reminded me that a small accessory such as a punchy patterned scarf or a pair of fuchsia flats can brighten my day. As I head into this last bit of time at Brown, I look forward to a semester filled with many such great sidewalk chats with classmates who share my affinity for fashion.
