From Alexander McQueen to Marc Jacobs, one can only dream of a closet filled with these designers. I believe me even dreaming about it hurts my wallet. My name is Derek Ong and I’m a shopaholic studying Retailing and Consumer Sciences at The University of Arizona. Fashion has always been around me since I can remember. Whether it was my mom making and sewing clothes for my brothers and me or watching every season of Project Runway. I wish I could say I was always fashionable, but I wasn’t. It wasn’t until my junior year of high school when I got my braces off where I was able to start over and become more fashion forward. Since then, my style has evolved as I have become more educated with fashion as I grow older. This has also encouraged me to start my own blog with hopes of inspiring others. My blog is my creative outlet where I can document my traveling, outfits, DIY projects and, of course, how to shop on a college budget.
Being able to push the boundaries of what society believes how one should dress is fashion. It is limitless and ever changing. Having the ability to express oneself through clothing, art, and personal style is what makes fashion fun and exciting because it evolves into something more than just clothes, it becomes you. It’s a way of being able to express yourself without having to say a single word.
For me, my style is constantly evolving into something different whether it is harem pants or a suit with shorts, it can’t be defined into a specific category because it is always changing. The only thing that does remain the same is that you will never see me in sweats or without my hair done. My inspiration for my outfits come from various places such as music, fashion bloggers, the runway, street fashion, the list is endless. However, I always try to put my own twist on them to make it my own.
I’m ready to discover the men’s fashion that Arizona has to offer. I feel that when it comes to fashion, men are left out. I am ready to bring them into the spotlight to showcase how men’s fashion doesn’t have to be a tank top and basketball shorts. So be sure to read my LETS HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS category every Tuesday to see men’s fashion like you have never seen it before.
