My name is Deanna Massa and I am beyond excited to be interning for CollegeFashionista this fall as a Style Guru. I am a fourth year student at Montclair State University completing a major in Fashion Studies and a minor in Sociology. Fashion has always been a part of my life as I had been exposed to the industry at a young age. My grandmother was a seamstress and often created garments while I was visiting her house. The day she had taught me how to sew clothing for my dolls was the day I became interested in creating and designing. After school I would sit on the floor of my bedroom cutting up paper, sketching and drawing pictures. I found a new love for art and photography which I took with me into middle school and high school.
Having this background, you would think that choosing a college major would have been easy for me, but it actually took until my junior year to figure out where I truly belong. I always knew that I wanted to be in a field that would allow me to be creative and becoming a Fashion Studies major at MSU has been the best decision I have ever made.
Regarding my style, growing up in the suburbs had definitely put a strain on what I wore. It seemed that every girl I encountered in town had a similar wardrobe. When attending school with the same people for 12 years, you tend to copy one another and before you know it, the crowd starts to look the same. It wasn’t until college that I was fully exposed to all of the wonderful possibilities out there. This whole new world of fashion I was introduced to intrigued me further and sparked an even stronger passion for the industry. I immediately read up on what was going on at the moment: designers, trends, news, etc. I started following bloggers and became an avid online shopper. Shortly after, I discovered my own love for writing. I started a personal blog DeeLovelyy where I write and post photos about my current favorite pieces and my own creations.
My style has definitely varied throughout the years, which is my favorite aspect of fashion. I love the constant change from season to season and trend to trend. It gives me a feeling of freshness; the start of something brand new. I would describe my current style as trendy casual. I value comfort and staple pieces, but also love to take inspiration from the latest trends. My all-time favorite pieces are combat boots and leather moto jackets. I am so excited to wear my new moto jacket when the weather gets cooler!
The Style Guru CollegeFashionista internship is a dream come true for me as it combines three of my passions: fashion, photography and writing. I cannot wait to explore college fashion and discover fellow classmate Fashionistas/os on campus. This gives me the perfect opportunity to expand my knowledge about the different styles in menswear, as you’ll see by following my articles titled LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS! Talk to you soon Fashionistas/os!
