STYLE GURU BIO: Dayna Gillespie

Hey! My name is Dayna Gillespie and I am so thrilled to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team. I am a junior here at the University of Maryland, home of the Terps. I am currently a Journalism major with a minor in Spanish.

One of the main things that lead me to apply to become a Style Guru is the ability to be immersed in fashion and style. There are so many different available avenues when someone is picking an outfit. I truly feel that the way a person feels can be expressed through the clothing they wear.

My mother always tells me, if you look good, you feel good. Which is why personally, I LOVE getting dressed up. There’s nothing like slipping your favorite pair of heels on, or finding the perfect bag to set off the whole outfit.

In my above look, I’m wearing a vintage-patterned shirt with a black-paneled mini skirt. My boots are about three inches tall, with criss-cross style laces. I love chunky heels because they’re so comfortable.

Fashion is constantly evolving, but there’s also an element of consistency. How so? Because confidence is always in style. Imagine today if we were all dressing like we lived in the ’80s. To some people, that sounds horrific, but to others, it sounds heavenly. There is no right or wrong when it comes to style. You just wear what makes you feel good and own it.

Coco Chanel, one of my absolute favorite designers once said, “Everyday is a fashion show, and the world is your runway.” I’m so excited to see how University of Maryland Terps hit their campus runway this semester. I know they’ll make me proud!
