STYLE GURU BIO: Danielle Dixson

Hello, Fashionistos and Fashionistas! I’m so excited to be back for another #RAD semester with CollegeFashionista. This will be my fourth semester with CollegeFashionista, and I can’t wait to continue sharing all the looks I find around campus and connecting with old and new Style Gurus.

I grew up around one of the most stylish ladies I know, (the one who is responsible for my shopping addiction) which happens to be my mother. I love hearing her stories about all the things she used to wear when she was my age and hearing about the trends that have circulated through the fashion world. Needless to say, my mom’s style has rubbed off on both my brother and I, so shout-out to my mom for her sense of style.

Of course, times are changing, and keeping up with the latest trends can be difficult, but I personally like to keep wearing trends even if it’s considered to be “out of style.” I’m the kind of girl who says, “if I like it and it looks good on me, I’m still going to wear it!” I love trying new things and experimenting with different textures and patterns, and to be completely honest, I will at least try if not wear almost anything. For this outfit, I’ve chosen one of my favorite ponchos from Abercrombie & Fitch that I’ve had for years, and of course, I still love it. I’m also wearing one of my favorite statement necklaces that I also layered with a silver medallion style choker. I then chose to wear a plain jersey knit T-shirt in beige, a pair of blue jeggings from American Eagle Outfitters, and some booties.

I love fashion because it gives me the chance to express my mind without saying a word. I like the idea of making a statement just by walking into a room before anyone has ever heard me speak. I love that I can take basic pieces that anyone could own and make them fit my aesthetic. That’s something to keep in mind about fashion, any piece you own is automatically different because of how you decide to wear it. Fashion is all what you make it and how you work with trends and clothes that speak to you.

This is why I love CollegeFashionista because it gives me the chance to express my thoughts about style in conjunction with sharing other people’s style to the readers of CollegeFashionista. Join me again soon for more of my upcoming articles this semester!
