STYLE GURU BIO: Daniela Tobar

Hello Fashionistas/os! Happy summer! My name is Daniela Tobar and this is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista. I just graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology with an associates degree in communication design, which include graphics and advertising design and I will be going into the packaging design bachelors at FIT this upcoming fall.

Let me tell you a little bit about me! I was born in Medellin, the fashion and design capital of Colombia. When I was about 10 years old my family decided to move to the U.S. Now I live in Southampton and go to school in New York City. So yes, I’m pretty lucky to experience the best of New York.

Fashion and design are my passion and inspiration. One of my earliest childhood memories is buying a pair of Minnie Mouse espadrilles. I grew up loving art since I was 10. I have done photography, painting, drawing and fashion design in the past. I wanted to be a Fashion Designer, so my loving mother signed me up for fashion design classes with a lady who designed for Victoria’s Secret. Later, I was introduced to lingerie designer Carole Hochman and her design team. This opened up my mind and I decided I wanted to do everything in the design industry, hence why I chose to go into communication design. Then I tried branding and packaging and was accepted into what I like to call “The best program FIT has to offer.”

Okay, so how do I describe my personal style? My style adapts depending on my mood and, most of the time, based on the activities I have planned for the day. During the spring and summer, you can always find me wearing my number one accessory, sunglasses. I usually wear white trousers and some flirty pastel tops. If it’s beach time, I reach for a fun and bright bathing suit with a classic tunic, beach hat and sandals. Finally, if it’s raining you will find me sporting all black and leather.
