STYLE GURU BIO: Daniel Sekula

Hello, I’m Daniel Sekula! I am stoked to be contributing to CollegeFashionista this semester. Aside from being an avid hiker, runner, cat-lover, and sushi-eater, I am also a student at the University of Utah.

With having an eclectic schedule and set of interests, I have an eclectic wardrobe to match. Defining myself as a “misfit” would be an accurate descriptor. I can float seamlessly through a trendy party, being the ultimate social butterfly. But then I could go home and YouTube videos about the origins of comic book characters, wearing a Ralph Lauren blazer and feel perfectly content vegetating for the rest of the night like a hermit. There have been times I would go to the movies and watch a Woody Allen double feature, then go to a rock concert and rage. I could wear a preppy pair of shorts, boat shoes and patterned button-up in the morning, then a rad leather jacket, combat boots and distressed denim at night. So, I am a “misfit” by nature and in style.

One of the greatest aspects of fashion to me is it has the ability to evolve. It can be molded to be appropriate for an event or activity. It has the power to send a message, while at the same time being functional. And best of all (in my opinion), it is self-expressive of that wearers identity, their vibe and how they want to feel/be seen that day. I am constantly being inspired with fashion just walking down the street, reading an editorial of a magazine or speaking with someone who has an energy I want to channel aesthetically. It can come from anywhere!

Some of my hobbies include: hiking, going to concerts, painting, playing tennis, shopping, travel, reading and styling.

Be sure to check out my monthly articles here on CollegeFashionista! I am excited to be able to share with you the RAD trends I find around my campus.
