Hello, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Cynthia Park, and I am currently a rising junior at Middlebury College in Vermont, where I’m majoring in Linguistics and minoring in Dance. Last semester, I shared ACCESSORIES REPORT with you every Friday, but this semester, I am happy to report that I will be writing for Tuesday’s STYLE GURU STYLE.
I really can’t say exactly when my obsession with fashion started. All I know is that one day, I was in flare jeans and sneakers and the next, I was mortified at what items were in my closet because they weren’t in style. I pored over magazines, admired every dress celebrities wore to awards ceremonies and began pausing in department stores to look at shoes that might go with outfits I had planned in my mind. Even my family nicknamed me “Fashion Police,” since I could tell my dad which ties went with which shirts and which didn’t. I’ve always been pretty conscious of other people’s styles, and I’ve wanted to be a part of a community that valued that too.
Cue CollegeFashionista, the first experience I had that opened a door into the fashion world. True, I made my own Polyvore sets and put outfits together, I started up a style blog with my roommate from sophomore year and I had a brief stint working at an Abercrombie & Fitch store near home. But I definitely wouldn’t have been able to pursue my interest in fashion without CollegeFashionista. I’ve learned a lot in just one semester, and I’m so excited to keep learning and writing about fashion.
I’ve realized I don’t have a signature style (I’m a loose top and jeans kind of gal), but in this outfit, I chose to go casual with a muscle tank (that I cut myself), black high-waisted shorts and high-top sneakers. I also added a flannel around my waist for an extra pop of pattern and color that I wasn’t currently wearing. This look is just one of many I’ve been experimenting with, and I can’t wait to show you what I’ve got planned for the summer.
If you like what you read every Tuesday, feel free to follow me via social media! I’m looking forward to seeing what this summer brings.
