I’m Courtney Pelot, a junior majoring in Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I can’t believe that this is going to be my fourth semester interning with CollegeFashionista. When I filled out the Style Guru application over a year ago, I never thought that this internship would impact my life in the ways that it has. It has made me a better writer and taught me how to create a personal brand for myself on social media, all while creating bonds with the Style Gurus on my campus and beyond. I have even had the chance to participate in a collaboration with American Eagle Outfitters and be featured on Seventeen magazine’s website. I’m thrilled to continue growing with CollegeFashionista as I take on being an editorial intern as well.
Fall is definitely my favorite season of the year. I love the clean notebooks and stylish back-to-school clothes. The weather is crisp and everything looks picturesque when it’s covered in bright, fallen leaves. One of my favorite parts of the season are the weekends. On Saturday mornings, you can find me walking around our state capital as I pick up fresh vegetables, pumpkins and spicy cheese bread at the farmers’ market. Then it’s off to Camp Randall with as much red and white apparel as possible for the football game. On Sundays, I love waking up early to head to a coffee shop for a long day of studying.
As I mentioned, one of my favorite aspects of autumn is the clothes. I recently purchased my first midi skirt and have fallen hard for the trend. I foresee this skirt becoming a go-to item in my wardrobe this season. Another one of my fall must-haves is leather. I just bought a leather T-shirt dress from Topshop and have my eyes set on a few chic leather pencil skirts from ASOS and NASTY GAL. I can see myself pairing the skirts with everything from chunky sweaters to simple crop tops and silk button-down blouses in jewel tones.
I’ve also taken a cue from one of my favorite movies, Clueless, by adding multiple plaid pieces to my wardrobe. Other items that are on the top of my back-to-school shopping list include simple black booties and black coated denim skinnies that can be paired with a simple white T-shirt or an oversized sweater. The last item that I’m coveting can take me from chilly autumn days to snowy winter ones. As I was flipping through the very heavy September issue of InStyle, I came across an eye-catching lilac colored J.Crew coat. It’s simple, well structured and the perfect unexpected pop of color that my wardrobe needs.
I’m looking forward to hunting down stylish Fashionista/os and the best pumpkin flavored drinks and treats that Madison has to offer this semester. Let’s vow to make this fall a fabulous and fashionable one!
