I’m thrilled to be returning as a Style Guru Intern this summer. After two great semesters with CollegeFashionista, my writing, photography and style have grown by leaps and bounds. Spring semester was a whirlwind of new opportunities and experiences as I prepared for pageants, edited my WHAT TO WEAR articles and worked diligently on papers and projects. I’m excited to now be writing for the brand new category, AROUND TOWN. Every Wednesday, I will bring to you the most happening boutiques, student designers and fashion shows in the Madison area.
I’m more than ready to dive right into summer style. I think crop tops are must-haves, especially in the steamy months. I tend to pair mine with high-waisted skirts and shorts. Lace, whether it be in long, breezy maxi dresses, billowing tops or textured shorts, is a staple fabric in my warm weather wardrobe. Lace garments help me achieve the relaxed boho, festival look that I love on hot summer days. When it comes to more formal attire, I’m constantly gravitating towards Marchesa and alice + olivia dresses. I was just lucky enough to add an eye-catching Marchesa frock and this alice + olivia number to my evolving wardrobe. I have to admit that I’m a bit of a Sephora-aholic and love trying new beauty trends. When my outfit needs a little something extra or if the day seems dark and dreary, I run to my makeup bag and swipe on some lipstick. My go-to shades include siren and scarlet red (specifically Dragon Girl and Cruella from NARS), hot pink and even bright violet.
Some of my favorite accessories are the ones that I take with me wherever I go. I ombred my hair at the end of my senior year of high school and over the past two years, it’s become one of my favorite aspects of my look. I recently had the ends dyed a brighter blond so my tresses are ready for summer! Actually, the same day I dyed my hair in high school (I must have felt daring that day), I got a tattoo on my foot that reads “Believe,” which is on display more than ever during summer thanks to all those sandals. I chose this word because growing up, my grandmother always told me that if I just believed in myself, I could do and be anything I wanted. Whenever I feel weak and want to hang my head, I simply glance at my foot and remember to believe in myself. Throughout my first two years here at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I have learned how important believing in yourself really is. If you just believe, you can conquer more than you ever thought possible.
So, are you ready Madison? I can sense that we have one stylish summer ahead of ourselves. When dressing in the morning, remember what Harry Winston once said: “People will stare. Make it worth their while.” So bring it Fashionistas/os! Let the red-hot summer ensembles commence!
