STYLE GURU BIO: Courtney Harrison

Hi, Fashion lovers! My name is Courtney and this is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. I’m so excited to be able to share my love of fashion with you! I am currently a final year music student at The University of Liverpool in the UK. I plan to do a fashion based Masters degree after I graduate so I’m hoping that this experience will help me on my way!

I’ve loved fashion before I even knew what it was or how to spell it. I owe my love of fashion to my mum, as she was definitely my first inspiration. Her wardrobe was like entering Narnia. It literally went on forever and you never knew what you were going to come across and “borrow” when you rummaged through it. She never wore the same outfit twice! Naturally growing up with her, fashion became a part of life. I would help her choose what to wear to work every evening, eyeing up more things of hers to “borrow” and add to my growing wardrobe. This was the beginning of my extensive fashion collection.

My cousin who is 10 years my senior also really inspired me. After getting her degree in a completely unrelated subject she ended up working in the fashion industry organizing fashion shows at NYFW. She’d be in New York one week and London the next and she’d bring me back designer clothes from up and coming fashion designers. It was so cool. I was always up to date on the up and coming trends and ahead of the crowd. I was a fashion insider.

Social media sites like Instagram, Pinterest, Youtube and Tumblr are where I find a lot of my inspiration and how I keep up to date with what’s going on in the fashion world. Some of my favourite bloggers to watch are Lissy Roddy, Erika Bowes, and Yanin Namasonthi. Their amazing styles have inspired me to start my own blog.

I would describe my style as daring and laid back, I tend to stick to classic muted tones such as black, navy, grey and beige but recently I’ve jumped on the pink trend. I love layering and wearing anything that is oversized and I’m always on the hunt for that statement item.

For today’s look, I have combined a beige weekday bomber jacket with my Zara oversized jumper, layered over my pink suede Zara trousers and pink Zara velvet boots topped off with a pair of dainty necklaces and my Zara Minaudière Briefcase bag.

My ambition is to go into the fashion industry and do either fashion promotion or become a fashion stylist. I’d love a job that lets me travel around the world and visit places I haven’t been whilst at the same time allowing me to be creative.

I’m looking forward to an amazing and fashionable semester here with CollegeFashionista, Catch you later.
