STYLE GURU BIO: Clara Livingston

Hey-o! My name is Clara and I am a sophomore at Carleton College, a small liberal arts school in Minnesota. I am super excited to write for CollegeFashionista this fall. Due to the fact that we are on the quarter system I will be spending these next few weeks soaking up the last rays of summer while jealously stalking my friends on social media as they start school. While summer is great, I always liked fall more.

This year, I will be an Economics and Math/Stats double major. Beyond academics, I also play violin, ski, play water polo and do stand up comedy. Though, fashion has always been something that I love. Most of my fashion inspiration comes from Instagram, blogs such as Chriselle Lim and Song of Style and designers like Christian Siriano and Jason Wu. I think the clothes you wear should feel and look like no matter how many times you wore it, the same clothing could be worn for many years to come. I think that’s the type of look I enjoy the most. Minimalist and clean looks appeal to me, although I find myself adorning a more boho or whimsical outfit every now and again.

When I was younger I asked for a loom for Christmas and ended up getting a sewing machine, a much more practical present in hindsight. I made costumes for my middle school’s dance and singing production in eighth grade with that sewing machine, which involved a lot of tulle and a lot of tutus. Although you will not see me in a tutu anytime soon, the experience helped me appreciate well-made clothing (like tutus that need to make it through many performances).

My slim boyfriend jeans from Madewell have been a staple in my wardrobe this summer, especially considering it was cool all the way through June and early July near Chicago. Beyond just adding a plain T-shirt, I spiced things up with leather pieces such as my jacket and Vans, which gave this outfit a rougher edge. I am all about accessories, and am a firm believer that an outfit is never complete without them. This leads me to usually piling them on. I try to keep my accessories simple, as the outfit should not have any distractions. Although these ear cuffs deserve to be noticed.

I am ecstatic about being a Style Guru this fall and cannot wait to share the style of Fashionistas/os from Carleton!
