STYLE GURU BIO: Cindy Garzon

Hello everyone, my name is Cindy Garzon and I’m extremely excited to be interning with CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru. I’m currently a sophomore at Fresno State pursuing a bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising and a minor in entrepreneurship. Usually at this point in my introduction people will say something on the line of “Oh, so you want to be a fashion designer?” Before I can answer their question and say “No” people will almost immediately say “That’s awesome!” Only because my major has the word “fashion” in it, it doesn’t mean that I want to be a fashion designer. Honestly, I can barley get the hem on my slacks straight. My real goal is to work as a women’s shoe or apparel buyer for a retailing company. I feel that the career I chose for my future calls my name just because I know that I can be both a Fashionista and a business woman all at once.

Growing up, I always felt that I had to conform to the norms of fashion that society imposed on me. I remember that in high school I spent a lot of money on an outfit that I absolutely hated only to fit in. Today I’m proud to say that through fashion I was able to find my own unique style. Some people may agree or disagree with it, but overall I’m just proud that I don’t have to pretend to be someone who I’m not anymore.

It’s not simple to describe my sense of style; it’s too complicated because it’s all over the place. One thing that I can say is that I really do have an obsession with vintage. Somehow I manage to incorporate at least one vintage piece into my outfit everyday. I was actually wearing a vintage DKNY top and a wool skirt that I bought from a local thrift store. Since the weather was bipolar I decided to wear a skirt for the warm weather and a cozy faux fur jacket as an add on for when it got chilly. I topped off the look with my Jeffrey Campbell shoes and my Ray-Ban sunglasses. If I may, some words of wisdom that I can spare is to never be afraid to mix your thrift and department store favorites all in one outfit.
