How anyone considers it to be fall when it’s 95-degrees out is certainly beyond my understanding. But low and behold, it’s my first fall in Florida—and it’s freaking hot. So while I’ve happily stacked away my sweaters and coats for Thanksgiving break, I’m still struggling to learn just what practical Florida fashion really is. When it’s 90 and downpouring, what’s a Fashionista to do?
This my fifth semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and my third semester as an Editorial Intern. I spent an amazing summer interning at Seventeen Magazine and Newsweek’s The Daily Beast but I am so excited to be back in the heart of Florida where palm trees and fresh air are abundant. I will be writing for WHAT TO WEAR again this semester and I can’t wait to continue scouring the streetwear of my fellow Floridian Fashionistas and Fashionistos for the latest campus trends. When I’m not writing, you can find me planning events as president of the Florida Magazine Student Association, hanging out at my sorority house or getting ready for my first season of Gator football games.
Over this summer, I noticed my style starting to lend itself towards a much more minimalistic feel. I started preferring strong, simple pieces over layer-filled outfits and have even started playing with statement jewelry. Considering my jewelry collection has only ever consisted solely of pieces my mom bought for me, this is a major accomplishment. Twenty years old and really beginning to blossom.
Considering the fall weather in Florida is just a secret word for more summer, I have also expanded my cut-offs collection. I added a few classic denims, some bright blues and fun florals. I also expanded my Sperry Top-Sider stock with a seriously preppy seersucker pair.
I’m so excited to continue writing for CollegeFashionista and I cannot wait to see what Floridian Fashionistas and Fashionistos have in store for this fall!
