Growing up in a small town definitely limited my chances of experiencing fashion first hand, but once I bought my first issue of Nylon magazine in the 7th grade I was hooked! Ask any of my friends and they’ll tell you my bedroom walls were covered in fashion editorials and advertisements that inspired my daily style choices.
Throughout college I found myself to be in yet another small town, so I continued to absorb my love for fashion with countless numbers of magazine subscriptions and style handbooks (the I Heart Your Style by Amanda Brooks is a personal favorite). One day a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista approached me and that was when my love for CollegeFashionista was born! I immediately went home and researched everything there was to know on how to become a Style Guru. Now here I am writing my very own Style Guru biography!
Here’s a quick rundown: I’m a senior Media Arts and Design major at James Madison University. My style icons include Cara Delevingne and the city of London. I hope to one day work for the very same magazine that started my obsession with style. This semester I’ll be tracking down the most fashionable men here on JMU’s campus, which shouldn’t be that hard because we have some stylish dudes here in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
When it comes to my daily duds you will always see me carrying a black Longchamp purse. I swear by this thing because it will fit all of my camera equipment and books for the day. It’s the Mary Poppins of purses, I’m telling you. It has even survived a weekend in D.C. filled to the brim with clothes and shoes! Now when it’s a bit chilly out I’ll throw on a beanie to keep warm (it’s also an easy fix for that bad-hair day we get every once in a while). And last but certainly not least, my leather jacket. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again – buying a leather jacket changed my life. I put this guy on and suddenly feel effortlessly cool, because that’s exactly what it does.
Overall, fashion plays a big part in showcasing who you are to the world around you. As we grow as individuals our style grows with us and I can’t wait to see how my very own style will grow throughout my time at CollegeFashionista!
