My name is Charity Gates and I am very thankful to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team this fall. I will be a sophomore in the Emory University system this year majoring in International Studies with a minor in Sociology. As a fashion blogger, I love to write about all aspects of the fashion industry. I am constantly around an array of styles and trends on campus so it came as no surprise that I will be reporting on men’s fashion with LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS!
Growing up in the Atlanta metropolitan area gave me a different perspective on the fashion world and I was thankful to have a fashion-forward mom and aunt who took me shopping every chance they got. When I arrived at school, I was always styled impeccably and received many compliments. Then, the days of middle school arrived and it seemed as though my fashion sense had been swallowed by the lack of stylish items available for me. This period did not last for long because after a memorable trip to the Big Apple the summer after ninth grade I had a semi fashion and style Renaissance. Nowadays, I do not like to categorize myself and stick to certain style trends, but instead try new things or wherever my passionate Fashionista heart takes me.
I’ve been so obsessed with statement necklaces and try to incorporate them into almost every single outfit I wear. A statement necklace can add a little pizazz to your look while also telling a story about your personality. I also love elements of men’s fashion and girls can definitely steal some details from the boys. From button-ups and parkas to brogues and combat boots, it is easy to take some inspiration from the guys and feminize it with a few girly touches like the statement necklaces I love so dearly.
Get ready for photographs and reports of stylish guys shuffling around campus and the city of Atlanta which has definitely grown into a mecca for Fashionistas and Fashinistos alike!
