STYLE GURU BIO: Charity Gates

Bonjour my fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos! Bienvenue to another semester of stylish tips and amazing fashion  with CollegeFashionista. As a refresher, my name is Charity Gates and I am a junior studying International Studies with a minor in Sociology at Emory University. I am excited for my fifth semester with CollegeFashionista since I will presenting my fashion advice from one of the fashion capitals of the world: Paris! That’s right! I’m studying abroad in Paris, France this spring semester at a wonderfully international school known colloquially as Sciences Po. I will try to capture the je ne sais quoi of French style, while also putting my French speaking skills to practical use when seeking out Fashionistas and Fashionistos.

As for my own style, hopefully Paris will do more than just give me insights into French culture, but also influence me while I undergo another phase of my style evolution. I’ve gone crazy on Pinterest making a board dedicated to outfits that I plan to wear to Paris and while strutting around on the streets of Paris. Travel style is one of the most important elements of the study abroad experience, hence the inspiration for my featured ensemble.

For travel style, it is important to remain comfortable while maintaining your stylish sensibilities. One of my favorite trends right now is the distressed boyfriend jean, which makes for a very comfortable, yet chic element. Paired with the boyfriend jean, an oversized sweater with a button-up top adds another level of comfort and sophistication. To put the finishing touch on the outfit, add a pair of classic sneakers because from the advice I’ve been getting, closed toe shoes are the way to go for traveling.

There you have it! Check out my column every Friday for an update on Parisian style and the progress of my style evolution while abroad. To see my daily adventures living la vie Parisienne, follow my #charityàparis on Instagram (@chacharity)!
