My name is Chanelle Alexis Bertelsen and I am from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Fashion is not very big in Victoria and having that isolation from the island has allowed me to build my own ideas and values of this industry. I am currently attending Savannah College of Art & Design as a freshman studying Fashion Marketing and Management and minoring in Dance. SCAD is an amazing facility where I can follow both my passions at once.
I’m so excited to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and further my involvement in fashion from my schools campus to reporting my findings on street fashion!
For the last four years I have worked in retail, learning the basics how local business run and their marketing techniques. In the past I have written the fashion column for the Ivey newspaper back home, but right now I work with a magazine in Savannah. I am the assistant commercial stylist, working with local boutiques. Along with taking part in many clubs, I enjoy helping with photo shoots and styling.
I have to say my interest in fashion stemmed from dancing. I have always loved how the human body can move and the way fabric can enhance motion and embody thoughts. One garment can change a mood, a feeling and an idea. Fashion moves deeper than just clothes, it is more of a life style and a form for expression where you can wear you soul on your sleeve.
My style is definitely classic and timeless, but to make my look more interesting I love throwing in some edgy pieces such as bright colored purses, platform booties, or a shoulder padded blazer. I believe mixing two opposites enable ones style to become modern and chic.
