STYLE GURU BIO: Caterina Parola

Hello, everyone! My name is Caterina. I am 20 years old and I am a junior at DePaul University, majoring in Public Relations and Advertising. I am very excited to embark on this journey with CollegeFashionista! I was born and raised in Milan, Italy, also known as one of the fashion capitals of the world. Growing up, I was always exposed to beauty, clothes, brands, stylists and all things fashion; that is probably why I am still so passionate about it! After leaving Milan, I moved to Chicago, where even more styles and trends were shown to me by the amazing people that populate the city. As I got older, I started learning about trends from TV shows, runway shows and magazines. I became very interested in the art of looking good. I enjoyed putting outfits together; soon enough, my girlfriends were asking me to go shopping with them, or sending me pictures of their outfits so that I could help them choose one. I would also be the “official” makeup artist in my group of friends before we went to parties or occasions. I think my personal style reflects my origins; just like the city of Milan, I prefer a glamorous look that’s subject to different influences. I mix my few high end fashion items with my more affordable clothes in order to create a unique look. I enjoy wearing dark, solid colors, such as black, gray, plum and burgundy. Everything I wear is usually sleek and minimalistic, although during the warmer season I sometimes swap black skinny jeans with a colorful sundress. I strongly believe you need a few staple pieces in your wardrobe, but I like to always sell or donate older clothes. Then, I’ll go shopping again!

When I’m not looking for new neutrals to add to my already extremely neutral closet, I’m either cooking and eating – and taking pictures of food—or speaking a different language (I speak four fluently, and actually use all of them every day). Since I love social media, I am also always on Instagram, the platform through which I have met many amazing and inspiring people, some of whom are photographers I sometimes model for. I have become interested in photography after they have shared their passion for it with me. I cannot wait to practice my skills during my time as a Style Guru! Overall, I really hope to get great knowledge and experience from this position with the CF family. And, of course, I would love to have a lot of fun while doing so. Check out my articles in the next few months to know more about me and my view on the latest trends!
