My name is Cassie Yettru and I’m a sophomore at Marist College. I am a Communications major with a concentration in Public Relations and have a Fashion Merchandising minor. I have been looking at CollegeFashionista since I was in high school, so it is really exciting for me to be a Style Guru!
With Marist College being just over an hour train ride away from the fabulous city of New York, there are a lot of fashion-conscious people on campus. On a daily basis, I see handfuls of people whose style I admire and whose outfits I covet. I cannot wait to feature some of them for the FASHIONISTA/O SPOTLIGHT category!
In general, my style is pretty simple and feminine. Blouses and blazers are my two favorite “go-to” items, which is good since I seem to have a growing amount of them in my closet! But one of the things I love the most about fashion is that it never has to be the same — you can wear whatever you want whenever you want to. One day I might be wearing a preppy look with pearls and a sweater layered over a button-up, and the next day I might have on one of my Dad’s old concert T-shirts and a leather jacket. I enjoy the flexibility of fashion and how easy it is to change things up. Without a doubt, my favorite thing to do is to use jewelry (especially vintage) as a way to keep things interesting since my clothes tend to be fairly simple. I like to look at the fashion of those around me on campus for inspiration because it’s realistic of what I could actually wear. For this reason, I’m also particularly obsessed with several blogs written by real, working women who demonstrate how to live a normal life while still looking great.
Above all else, I believe you should always wear what makes you happy. If you really feel positively about what you are wearing, then that’s all that matters. I think that any outfit can be beautiful, as long as the person wearing it carries herself (or himself) with confidence and grace. As Audrey Hepburn once said, “Elegance is the only beauty that never fades.”
