STYLE GURU BIO: Cassandra Ried Matlis

My name is Cassandra Matlis, and I am a student at Temple University, currently majoring in Marketing with a minor in Management Information Systems.

Philadelphia has always been my home. I was always drawn to the city life and crave the excitement. There is so much creativity and inspiration around Philadelphia that truly makes it the “City of Brotherly Love.” It is an exciting time to live in Philadelphia because it is starting to be known as a major fashion capital for designers, high end clothing stores and street style bloggers. It is an honor to live and breathe the streets of Philadelphia and use that inspiration for my style.

When I was younger, I never was the one to choose clothing that other people wore. I had my own unique style. Clothing was a way of expression for me; it spoke to me. I remember I would rummage through my mom’s closet and find her old clothing from the ’80s and ’90s. Even though the items might not have fit, I fixed them up and put my twist on them. Just like a painter who uses their brush to create masterpieces, I use clothes to create my own masterpieces.

Many of my fashion inspirations are from everyday Fashionistas. I love surfing through the web or scrolling through Instagram and finding new style bloggers. They are everyday people who are true inspirations in my life that have helped me define my style and learn more about fashion.

Here is a little secret about me: I love the color black! I have to wear something black with my outfits no matter what season it is. It is my go-to color, and honestly, you can never go wrong with a black pair of pants and a basic top. For my outfit that I chose to wear in these pictures, I paired my black and white striped dress with a draped, two-toned gray top and high-top black gladiator sandals. By combining different articles of clothing, it gives the outfit a dramatic and edgy look.

I am so excited to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team and be interning has a Style Guru. This is an amazing opportunity to showcase unique styles and trends from Fashionistas/os on my campus. I cannot wait for this summer adventure to begin.
