STYLE GURU BIO: Caroline Wilcox

Hello fashionistas/os! My name is Caroline Wilcox and I’m a junior fashion business management major with a minor in English and economics at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Through CollegeFashionista, I am pursuing my interest for writing for a fashion and beauty publication. After I graduate, I would love to work for a magazine or website like this one!

When I was little, I had an enormous love for drawing and painting. This love for art led me to discover my love for fashion as I found I always chose to draw people, clothes, hair and beauty. I believe my large art background allows me to see color and print combinations in different ways. I also now see fashion as a medium of art. Fashion has allowed me to express myself in ways I didn’t know were possible. I now think fashion is extremely important, not only to the industry, but to everyone as it is the first thing people see. First impressions are based on the clothes a person is wearing and your outfit speaks before you do.

It’s hard to put my personal style in one word because some days I dress sporty, whereas other days I like to dress up and look more sophisticated and girly. Add to this the fact that I am constantly growing and evolving by being inspired by what I see around me. My inspiration comes from all around me. From scrolling through Instagram, to the streets of New York City to my favorite TV shows and movies. Overall, though, I would describe my style as minimal, as I’m not one to throw on a lot of bling, and I own a lot of basics.

As of now, these studded Sam Edelman sneakers are my current obsession. They’re super cute, comfortable to walk in and easily paired with a dressed up or dressed down outfit. I’m also loving hoop earrings, they’re a perfect way to make a simple outfit look a little more interesting.
