STYLE GURU BIO: Caroline Letzel

Hi everyone! I’m so excited to be returning as a Style Guru again this semester. I had so much fun in the fall and I can’t wait to see what you’re wearing this winter and spring.

This outfit incorporates many different aspects that express my style. I’m currently inspired by the aesthetics of Nicole Miller and Marc Jacobs. I really admire how they incorporate modern ideas and timeless designs into a unique look. My style is expanding and I really enjoy experimenting with different pieces to create a whole new look. Fashion is constantly changing and it’s always exciting to think about what is going to happen next. “One thing that is exciting about fashion is the surprise element. People don’t know what they want. They just know when they see it,” said Marc Jacobs. I think he accurately describes why fashion is so compelling to me in how it’s so surprising and different for each individual.

Most of the time when I’m putting an outfit together I think about two things: the weather and comfort. Lately we’ve been lucky with warmer temperatures this past December, so I’ve been trying to take advantage of it as much as possible. I’m obsessed with this jacket and tend to always reach for it when I’m getting dressed. The flannel shirt I’m wearing used to be my grandpa’s, which I’ve put over a black dress. Marc Jacobs is known for making flannel into high fashion and wearing it as a dress can be a little unexpected and thrilling.

One of the recent trends I love is the blanket scarf, they’re perfect for adding a statement in the colder months, yet will also help keep you warm. In addition, I layered one of my favorite necklaces, because it integrates a vintage touch into the modern pieces I’m wearing.

Additionally, pairing knee-high socks with either rain boots or riding boots creates more depth and it’s a little unpredicted. My rain boots are from Ralph Lauren and the zipper on the back helps dress them up a bit more.

Overall, I think this look encompasses many pieces that I enjoy wearing throughout the year in a new way. I can’t wait to find more Fashionistas/os to share this semester and continue on as a Style Guru!
