STYLE GURU BIO: Caroline Dilone

Hello there Fashionista/os!  My name is Caroline Dilone and I am so delighted to be a new Style Guru this year for CollegeFashionista. I am a freshman at The New School living in New York City where I was born and raised.

Living in one of the world’s fashion capitals, pop culture has influenced my style without a doubt. My life is full of phases. In middle school I had my Avril Lavigne phase where I wore nothing but converse, skinny jeans and oversized sweaters with a beanie. In high school, I had my Peyton Sawyer phase, from One Tree Hill, where I would wear a leather jacket with graphic tees and rock my big curly hair. Of course one cannot forget the ‘80s and ‘90s phase where my inspirations were Molly Ringwald, Friends and Brenda Walsh from Beverly Hills 90210. High school is where my love for fashion sparkled, and it’s also where I found the piece that builds my character: my burgundy hat. Everyone has their article of clothing or jewelry that describes them, whether it’s a locket or a ring. For me I found my hat the first time I went thrifting. I feel that everytime I wear my burgundy hat, it’s a good day.

At the moment I feel like I’m sort of everywhere. One day I’m glamorous like Carrie Bradshaw, the next I’ll be classic, uptown chic, boho or edgy. I’ve always felt that in life we are all actresses/actors playing a role and we are our own costume designers. I love how one day I can try to pull off Blair Waldrof and the next ‘90s grunge. I firmly believe that one is never too old to play dress up because every morning comes with the questions: what am I going to wear? Who do I want to be today?

This is why I fell in love with CollegeFashionista and decided to take this passion to the next level. I can’t wait to be inspired by all the Fashionista/os out there and I hope to inspire all of you every Thursday with my posts. Stay tuned!
