STYLE GURU BIO: Caroline Alva

Hello, Fashinistas/os! My name is Caroline Alva and I am currently a junior at Iowa State University, majoring in electrical engineering. Fashion is my number one love, and I absolutely love how I can express my creativity and personality through the clothes that I wear. My style changes daily from classic, to edgy to polished. I love trying new things and pairing standout pieces with classic staples. I constantly want to dress up, but it’s essential for me to be comfortable during the hours I spend studying. So, I always try to wear comfortable clothes that don’t make me feel like I am compromising on style.

My favorite trend this winter is fur, faux fur. It can definitely be risky, but it is one risk that I am willing to take. I have been constantly shopping around for fur pieces and, when I found this vest, I fell in love. The length of this vest is what really made it stand out for me. I love how flattering the length makes the vest look, especially when most fur items can come off as bulky and unflattering. Anyone who knows me knows that you can consistently find me wearing all black outfits. So, of course, I had to wear all black when wearing a stand out piece like this vest. I paired the vest with some high-waisted black jeans and a cropped, black turtleneck sweater. By wearing all black with the vest, it allows the attention to be focused on the vest without making the outfit boring. This is an easy outfit that I love to wear out shopping or on a lunch date with friends; it makes your style look effortless and put together. Fur in the winter? Groundbreaking.
