STYLE GURU BIO: Carly Reiser

Hello, my name is Carly and I am currently a senior at Iowa State University. I am studying journalism in hopes to work for a magazine one day. My two minors are women’s and gender studies and fashion merchandising.

In my free time you will find me cuddling with my cat or off traveling to a new place. In the past two years I have been to four different countries and met the most amazing people, while also trying some amazing food of coarse. During those two years, I went to Canada, Germany, Ireland, and Italy. Not only was the food amazing, but seeing the different styles from country-to-country was very intriguing. It was truly inspiring to see the different fashion styles around the world.

I started to get more into fashion when I first arrived at Iowa State and saw how trendy everyone was. I had always been a tomboy and played sports my whole life, so fashion wasn’t a priority. When I didn’t have sports consuming my life, I found myself buying more heels instead of soccer cleats. I found myself trading my beloved sweatpants for jeans and dresses.

For the outfit I’m rocking this time, I took a basic graphic tank and paired it with bright blue high-waisted shorts. I am always saying “Chill AF” so I felt like this tank was perfect for me! I am obsessed with Converse and own 15 pairs, so of course I had to rock my black high tops. My white and black high top Converse are my go-to shoes! For accessories I wore a classic black ’90s choker and some snazzy shades. To top off this outfit I actually stole my dad’s hunting/fishing jacket he’s had for well over 10 years. First of all, the plaid print is amazing, but the random snags and holes in it from barbed wire fences make it super unique. I am in love with soft flannel jackets this year because they can pretty much be worn during any season.

Now that I have entered the fashion classes at Iowa State I have gained a new appreciation for it. I love thinking about what I’m going to wear the next day or going into a store and finding a new outfit. I think I have my own kind of style and I am excited to share it with others!
