STYLE GURU BIO: Carly Colonnese

Hello Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Carly Colonnese, and this is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. Hailing from Michigan, I am a Junior at the University of Michigan studying Communications with a specialization in Art and Design.

Inherently funky and a little bit weird, Ann Arbor is a city that exudes style, individuality and culture. This plethora of influences fosters not only an area that prepares students for the workforce or graduate school, but also allows for students to find their niches and, most importantly, themselves. From waking up at 7:00 a.m. for football Saturdays to the Ann Arbor Art Festival, this city creates opportunities to meet people and see the styles that are just as alluring and aberrant as Ann Arbor. As someone that is heavily influenced by the culture and people of which I am surrounded, I thrive in cities and places that value individualism and style.

From declaring Vogue or ELLE magazine as my magazines of choice by age 10, I was a certified diva and fashion fanatic at a young age. Now in college, I am proud to be a part of the student-published fashion magazine, SHEI Magazine.

As expected, my style has evolved and has cultivated something completely identifiable and anomalous to myself. I’m not one for bright colors or bold prints, rather I adore pieces that have a unique aesthetic, unconventional shape or interesting texture. I live my life in almost black and white, donning color primarily as accent pieces. My favorite fashion pieces include faux fur vests and faux leather jackets. I draw inspiration not only by the people I see on a day-to-day basis, but also from street style blogs and Instagram. My favorite blogs include Lust for Life and Style’d Avenue.

I am elated to be interning for CollegeFashionista to represent and present the stylish and trendy individuals at the University of Michigan. Be sure to check in every Monday to see what I have reported on for the week.
