STYLE GURU BIO- Carli Solomon

Hey fellow Fashionistas. This is my second time as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, and I’m so excited to be back for the spring semester. I am a freshman at Florida State University majoring in editing, writing, and media with a minor in communications. My dream is to one day work for a big time fashion magazine in New York City, such as Vogue or W magazine, but for right now I’m just your average college student trying to survive these twelve credit hours per semester.

As a native Floridian, fashion was never a big deal to me. Year round I wore spaghetti strap tank tops with shorts and flip flops. Buying a new pair of sunglasses was the biggest fashion statement I could make, and words like “fleece” or “parka” were never in my vocabulary. There was really never a need to change anything up, and as a ten-year-old this was a pleasing situation to be in. However, this all changed when I entered high school and my passion for journalism flourished. I started reading fashion magazines and fell in love with the incredible clothing the models were wearing. I was fascinated by the industry and knew immediately that fashion was a field I had to be involved in, and so my desire began.

My style tends to be more of a boho-chic look, such as the ensemble I’m wearing in the photos featured. I like to put together an effortless look by wearing easy basics, such as this black crop top from Brandy Melville and my favorite bell bottom jeans. When it comes to fashion inspiration I normally turn to social media outlets such as Pinterest, Tumblr or my favorite fashion magazines. I also gain a better understanding of the style I am aiming for by following some of my favorite celebs and models, such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Karlie Kloss. My wardrobe mainly consists of Brandy Melville because I am a huge fan of their comfy basics, along with Urban Outfitters and Banana Republic.

Now that you know a few things about myself and my go-to style, it’s time to focus in on the trends seen throughout Florida State’s campus. Unfortunately, that fashion release will have to wait till my next post. Till then, trendsetters.
