STYLE GURU BIO: Candace Sanders

Greetings, Fashionstas/os! My name is Candace Sanders and I am so excited to be returning as a Style Guru for the spring semester! Being a part of CollegeFashionista was such an awesome experience to be a part of for my first semester of college, and it taught me a lot about approaching strangers and holding conversations. The best thing about it is, I became friends with the people I photographed!

For those of you that are new here, I am a freshman VCD major at Kent State University. As a Design major, I’ve been exposed to so many types of creativity, and I cannot wait to apply what I’ve learned to this spring 2016 internship. As someone who has always been interested in fashion photography and the fashion industry as a whole, CollegeFashionista has been a great way for me to express myself creatively while learning at the same time.

A few things have changed since we last talked. For one thing, I got my nose pierced! It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but was too scared to pursue. Also, currently I am in the process of redeveloping and scrutinizing my style. I used to pour over fashion blogs and magazines daily, but have now decided to pull back and really contemplate on what matters to me. Sometimes when you’re so busy looking at others for reference, you start to lose yourself. One of my goals for 2016 is to gravitate more towards things I like, and not always rely on the latest trends to influence my style.

This outfit is a great example of the direction I’m headed. In high school I would’ve second-guessed wearing something like this, but now I don’t care! A sparkly turtleneck is a great way to draw attention to your face, and adding minimal jewelry really completes the upper half of the look. To apply a cohesive structure to the outfit, I decided to pair the gaudy top with a dark pair of jeans, and black ankle boots.

All in all, I’ve really enjoyed the time I’ve spent working with CollegeFashionista, and cannot wait to continue sharing the diverse looks that roam around the Kent State campus!
