Hello everyone, my name is Brooke and I am a rising senior at Emory University.

When it comes to fashion, I love being a chameleon. I have never wanted to pigeon hole myself to any particular category. Instead, I like to choose outfits based on pieces that I really love. One day, I might wear studded boots and the next I could be wearing a beaded capelet. The important thing is that I feel confident in whatever look I put together.

While trends are exciting and fun, do not be afraid to try something new. If you think Moschino’s eccentric dresses are outrageous in the best possible way, but that you could never pull it off, try out something smaller in scale. A Betsey Johnson clutch costs less than a Moschino design and can have a big impact without seeming as intimidating.

The same goes for makeup.  Before last semester, I had relatively little interest in beauty products – there was no way I was waking up an extra half hour early before my first class just to apply makeup. Then one day I decided to just wear foundation and mascara, then some eyeliner, and before I knew it, I was rocking cut creases as though I was born with glittery eyelids.

Right now, ‘90s style is coming back in full swing, including Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love-inspired grunge beauty and fashion. I decided to give one of my favorite mini dresses a more alternative look by adding a pair of black tights and studded boots.  Greige lipstick is also popular this season, but can easily wash the wearer out with a “concealer lips” effect.  If you want to try the greige lips trend, make sure to match your skin’s undertones.  For me, ColourPop’s Trap has a lavender tint that works well with my cool toned skin and does not make me look like I’m ready to play a zombie from The Walking Dead.  I completed the look with a smoky purple defined eye.

No matter what your style is, I’m excited to see everyone’s summer looks and can’t wait to start my second semester with CollegeFashionista.
