First, let me start off by saying that I am thrilled to be a Style Guru this summer for CollegeFashionista. Now, here is a little information about me. My name is Brittany Clark and, as of next semester, I will be a junior at Montclair State University. I am a business major with a concentration in Retail Merchandising and Management. I am a fashion enthusiast who is just trying to make my way into the industry.
In the words of one of the greatest Fashionistas, Rachel Zoe, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” I identify with this quote because it best describes how my relationship with fashion began.
If you ask anyone who knows me, they could probably describe me in one word: shy. Yes, words don’t exactly come easy to me, but I have another way of expressing myself and that is through fashion. Although people might not remember me by what I said, they will definitely know me by what I wore. Fashion is a gift for girls and guys like me and I always let my clothes do the talking. My personal style allows me to express what words cannot describe: my feelings, thoughts, emotions and creativity.
However, despite years of being your typical quiet and shy girl, things have changed. College has definitely taken me out of my comfort zone. Since going away to school I have learned to use my voice and share with others my ideas, opinions and thoughts. Today, shy has become a word that is no longer used to describe me. Instead, characteristics such as, friendly, outgoing, kind and, most importantly, a Fashionista, can all be used to define who I am.
Although I still use fashion as a mechanism of communication, I have come to realize that there is nothing better than actually using your own words. This is why I am honored to have been chosen to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. This summer, my column, FASHIONISTA/O SPOTLIGHT, will focus on meeting other stylish students and allowing them to share their personal style and voice their own fashionable opinions. I cannot wait to begin working with CollegeFashionista this summer and I hope you will be inspired by the Fashionistas and Fashionistos featured in my posts!
