Hello Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Britta Engstrom and I am a sophomore at Saint Louis University studying marketing with a minor in theatre. This is my first time as a Style Guru, and I could not be more excited! There is nothing I love more than living in such a highly fashionable world and observing people bringing out their personalities through their wardrobe. I get the pleasure of writing for FASHIONISTA/FASHIONISTO SPOTLIGHT this semester and I am very stoked to do so because I’m anxious to ask Fashionistas/os who their inspirations are and how their style reflects in each of them.
I am fortunate enough to have three older sisters who are Fashionistas themselves and inspirations to me! Of course, we are all similar in many ways but we each have our own personal style which makes us so different and unique! The four of us live all over the world, which is awesome because I get to visit them and see what the newest trends in their cities are. My oldest sister, Maude, lives in Stockholm, Sweden! I got the pleasure of traveling over to Sweden this summer to study abroad for four weeks which definitely invited many new ideas to my wardrobe (which made it hard for me to zip my suitcase on my way home)!
Maude loves to wear more neutral colors, stripes, scarves, flowers etc. Even though she is way more mellow compared to my other sisters and I, she manages to still incorporate the latest (and Swedish) trends to her outfits! My second oldest sister, Emma, lives in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a free spirit, which reflects in her wardrobe. She has more of a hippie style to her.
Last is Lani, who is closest in age to me. Lani attends the University of Iowa in Iowa City. You will never spot her in sweatpants! Lani has always had her own unique style that stuck out to others. She actually has her very own fashion blog and manages a popular clothing store! She never fails to have a highly fashionable outfit on whether it’s her denim shirt, LA Dodgers hat or Converse.
While my sisters all have their own personal style, I love to incorporate all the latest trends into my wardrobe. Whether I’m wearing a flower headband around my forehead and Converse, boyfriend jeans and nude pumps or a graphic tee with some camo leggings, I try my hardest to wear fashionable outfits as much as I can. Even though I am a student-athlete and have limited time, I still manage to put a stylish twist while reppin’ my school gear.
In my outfit above I was heading to a benefit. I was extremely tired from having a workout that day so I threw my hair up in a high point tail and put my Converse on. This pink and white stripped crop top was very appropriate for a summer night and I made the outfit a bit more casual adding the denim skirt. My favorite accessories are rings so I added a white two-finger ring to my left hand and an off-gold peace sign ring to my right hand. This was the perfect outfit for an important summer gathering.
