STYLE GURU BIO: Brinton Munoz

Hello, and welcome to my first-ever post as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. My name is Brinton Munoz, and I am a senior at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, studying both Strategic Communication and Communication Studies.

I was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Mesquite, Texas. My style has definitely evolved throughout the years. Growing up, I had quite the interesting and even cringe-worthy style. I, of course, fell to the trends of Hollister Co. and Abercrombie & Fitch, which I do regret, but I will not be victimized by my lack of judgment because I am a better person for the experience. But really, middle school and high school were not my peak years for style. I was forced to abide by a standardized dress code where I could only wear solid color polo shirts and khakis. This suppressed my ability to experiment with my look, and although I wish I could say that this awkward phase stopped there, unfortunately, it did not.

Freshman year at Texas Christian University was also not a shining moment for my style. I remember oversized bootcut jeans and sweaters with overwhelmingly large American Eagle Outfitters logos. Yes, those were the days, and yet, I still thought I was quite the Fashionisto. Not until my sophomore year did I do some major soul-searching and found my personal style. I like to describe my look as casual but chic. I do not believe that a person has to wear all of the season’s trends in one outfit to look stylish. I think the simpler a person keeps his/her outfit, the easier it is to showcase a specific statement piece that he/she wants to show off.

I would say my go-to outfit would be a nice pair of dark wash or colored skinny jeans, a fitted button-down long sleeve shirt, a pair of my signature low-top Converse shoes and, to pull it all together, aviator sunglasses. Also, if it is cold enough (and in Texas that could be any day, even during summer), I love to throw on a black leather jacket because it can make any outfit go from plain and unoriginal to badass and rock star status.

I cannot put into words how excited I am to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this summer. As I have slowly entered the world of fashion, I have grown an appreciation for individual style. I am happy that I now have the opportunity to highlight outfits I see on the street that I feel need to be shared with everyone. Also, I want to be able to use my position as Style Guru to empower others to embrace their own style and forget what everyone else is wearing. Wear what makes you comfortable, and you will always feel confident. Confidence is something any Fashionista/o needs to have if he/she expects to thrive in the world of fashion or in life.
