STYLE GURU BIO: Bri dela Torre

My name is Bri dela Torre, a returning Style Guru for fall of 2015 from the University of Pittsburgh. As a rising sophomore at Pitt, I am currently trying to double major in both Business and Biology. Despite enjoying most aspects of my studies, I have an ongoing love affair with all things fashion and couldn’t imagine passing up an opportunity such as this one where I can write about the latest trends and events.

I grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh daydreaming about the beautiful clothes I saw in magazine editorials. I loved to imagine what it would be like to wear handmade gowns and to be dripping in diamonds. Unfortunately, there weren’t a lot of opportunities to dress up like a model in Vogue when you’re in high school; because let’s face it, Louboutins aren’t made to wear for the bus ride to school.

Although where I attend school is not far from home, I like to think that I’m close enough but in an entirely different atmosphere. My sense of style also takes on these characteristics, close enough to an editorial but with my lifestyle and taste rather than those of the high fashion world.

Like many other ladies, my style changes on the daily and I have tastes that extend to all ends of the fashion spectrum. However the one thing that stays constant no matter what outfit I have on is my jewelry. If it sparkles and shines, there is a high chance that I want it or have something similar to it in my own personal wardrobe. I consider jewelry the most versatile kind of accessory because in my opinion the right necklace or pair of earring can make an outfit or tell a story. Some of my best pieces are those that have been passed down to me from relatives and for most pieces, one size fits all so there is a high chance you can wear the same necklace when you’re 15 or 50.

The outfit I have pictured is one of my summer go-tos because it is classic and versatile. The light linen fabric of the button-down gives a summery and casual feel, but when mixed together with the statement necklace and purse, the outfit gives off an effortlessly chic vibe.

No matter what event you have for the upcoming fall semester, let me and my posts be a source of inspiration every month!
