My name is Brenna Hogan and I am absolutely thrilled to be returning for a second semester at CollegeFashionista. I am currently a junior at Loyola University Chicago, studying Communications and Music. I enjoy decorating for the holidays, snuggling with my yellow lab and eating a good batch of blueberry pancakes. When it comes to my style, I like to keep it simple. I prefer the classics over the latest trends and a bargain over a name brand. Whenever I need a little inspiration, I look to my style trifecta: Kate Middleton, Blake Lively and Sophia Bush.
I spent last semester abroad at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. My experience was truly amazing and full of challenge and growth. I was stranded overnight in a Stockholm airport, developed global friendships, witnessed a protest in Belfast, hosted a radio show and learned an incredible amount about myself and the world. Much like life, I believe style should be constantly evolving. Therefore, my style this semester is heavily influenced by the cardinal rules of British fashion: tweed is the most important fabric in existence and dressing in all black ALWAYS works (for example: this sleek romper).
I’m extremely excited to be covering the WHAT TO WEAR column this semester. Whether it’s an interview, date, or just a regular day of classes, tailoring your look to a particular event is so important. There are many sayings about the power of clothing (dress for success, dress well to test well) and I wholeheartedly believe in those ideas. Yves Saint Laurent says it best: “I have always believed that fashion was not only to make women more beautiful, but also to reassure them, give them confidence”. Looking good makes you feel good! Need to make a killer first impression when meeting the parents? Lacking outfit inspiration for a last-minute invite to a 21st birthday blowout? Head over to CollegeFashionista each Thursday to check out my fresh finds in WHAT TO WEAR!
