STYLE GURU BIO: Brea Cubit

Hey, guys! My name is Brea Cubit. I’m a born and raised Californian, but I’m currently a junior at the University of Missouri-Columbia. I’m majoring in journalism with an emphasis in magazine editing and minoring in textile and apparel management. I’m pursuing a career in fashion journalism because writing and fashion are two of my biggest passions.

Other passions of mine include shopping, eating and watching superhero shows.

I’m a dreamer and a visionary. I believe in the power of transforming the things that you imagine into reality. This is why I’m so obsessed with mood boards, vision boards, dream boards, etc.

I believe in individuality. I think one of the biggest, most stressful pitfalls in the world of fashion and fashion blogging is that you absolutely have to have a certain aesthetic, take certain pictures or have a very specific style. But, that completely goes against the beauty of fashion. Fashion is about expression and if everyone looks the same way, blogs the same way and tries to market themselves in the same way, then we’ve created a limited, uniform—both literally and metaphorically—world of fashion.

Sorry, my mini rant is over.

Anyway, this is long enough, so I’ll just end with how excited I am to be returning as a Style Guru. I was a guru this past semester and I’m happy to be back for the summer. CollegeFashionista was one factor among many that really helped me find my way over the past few months. By meeting other Style Gurus and listening to the Office Hours podcast, I’ve learned to love myself and not be afraid to push myself to achieve great things. I’ve also learned to embrace failure and ride the waves of life gracefully and fearlessly, even if I don’t know where they’re taking me.
