I’m Brailey Lisath, a first-year Journalism student at High Point University with mad love for pearls, antiques, novels and indie rock music. I grew up in a small town in southern Ohio where the only concept of style was a brand name T-shirt, and no one understood the visual masterpiece that is an Alexander McQueen show. I was entranced by fashion, the construction of a perfect outfit and the impact the right pair of shoes could have on your mood. I suppose the abnormality of my personal style in that environment encouraged and inspired me even further, propelling my passion through the entirety of my grade school years.
As this is my first year of college and exposure to real world responsibility, I am experiencing a vast amount of growth and maturity. I am also affected by the grave change in environment HPU is; every day looks like a college interpretation of New York Fashion Week. I find myself adding pieces to my wardrobe that reflect these changes. What once was a closet full of prints and bright colors is slowly, but surely, becoming one full of dresses, blazers, heels and statement jewelry pieces.
Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” These words are the foundation for my perspective and appreciation of fashion; they transcend into my individual wardrobe, ignite my fire for experimentation and embody the idea that style can be found anywhere, inspired by anything. I’m always keeping an open eye, and an open mind!
I hope to introduce you to Fashionistas/os who exhibit a variety of styles and trends in the STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK column this semester. I am so excited to embark on this journey with CollegeFashionista, to take tips from my peers and to further develop both you readers, and my own style.
