Greetings to my fellow Fashionistas/os!

It is a pleasure to finally be a part of this glamorous community. My name is Bianca Portillo and I’m majoring in Broadcast Journalism at Pennsylvania State University. I am a rising sophomore. As a new Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, I’m overwhelmingly excited to write weekly fashion articles for the world to see.

It’s always been a dream of mine to one day see my words printed on a page in Vogue magazine. Reading articles from Seventeen, NYLON, Teen Vogue, Vogue and Glamour have inspired my sense of style today. My true love for fashion didn’t evolve until the summer of my sophomore year in high school. For my 15th birthday my parents took me on a trip to the lovely city of Paris. What people wore to museums, restaurants, malls and even parks caught my attention immediately. People my age at the time would strut down the mall with an outfit such as jeans, heels and an edgy leather jacket. Unlike in the United States where most teens owned a decent amount of items from Hollister and American Eagle Outfitters. It was different; barely anyone wore anything name brand and if they did it was not obvious. I fell in love with the way people presented themselves fashionably, and since then I told myself that I too would present myself as such once I got back to the States.

My love for fashion has always stayed constant due to the fact that I surrounded myself with fashion obsessors. My best friend’s sister is a rising fashion designer and it’s always a pleasure to model some of her clothing for her fashion shows. Every time we get together I raid her closet and seek to find any new items that I can borrow. My best friends and I are addicted to Pinterest, because this is where we quickly find new outfits to remake and rock off. My sisters and I always have a successful shopping trip at the thrift store where I find most of my favorite fashion items. The way I dress does not depend on the stores that I go to. It’s by what I find anywhere even if it’s at a flea market. I usually seek to find unique items that most people don’t have in their closet.

This summer I hope to captivate outfits that vary in different styles. I’ll do my best to seek outfits that motivate you to imitate. I’m excited to share the trends and colors that I catch my eye and that they would catch yours as well. Hopefully my articles inspire my fellow readers in their next fashion needs. Whether you’re heading over to a sweet picnic or getting ready to bust a move under the disco, you can count on me.
