STYLE GURU BIO: Bethany Pickard

Hello lovelies! My name is Bethany and I’m a freshman at Mississippi State University. I chose to pursue a major in fashion design and merchandising—at the moment, my career aspirations are caught somewhere in between being a stylist or working with historic clothing. There’s just a sense of importance to preserve fashion history; after all, history repeats itself (’70s and ’90s style resurgence, anyone?).

My passions are focused in music and fashion. The two worlds intertwine so beautifully and both have fascinated me as long as I can remember. The boots in this look provide evidence of music’s impact on my life and style—I probably would not have gone near these before listening to Lady Gaga’s Joanne. After listening to the album I had to get my hands on some simple cowgirl-inspired boots. These are perfect since they add some height to my tiny 5’2 stature (heels are my best friend). I won’t be galloping into the sunset with my own John Wayne anytime soon, but these boots work just as well for a coffee-seeking excursion.

My style has always been about being comfortable but also making a statement about myself. My messy, bedhead hair is my signature, and it’s also the perfect easy class look. I love adding in fun, unexpected items to otherwise simple outfits. My sequined jacket here is the perfect example of that! You can’t go wrong with a garment that is both fun and functional. Although I like to lounge around as much as I can, I still like to turn heads… even if that means dressing like a disco ball on the way to class.
