STYLE GURU BIO: Bailee Graham

Hello, fellow Fashionistas! My name is Bailee, and I am a rising sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth University majoring in fashion merchandising. Growing up, fashion was always super exciting to me. I was so infatuated with clothes that I even dressed my little cousin (mind you, he’s a boy) up in a tutu and a full face of makeup. I have clear memories of my mom constantly reminding me that I wasn’t “going to a fashion show” anytime I took too long to get dressed. When thinking about my future in high school, of course I weighed a number of options, but I always found myself back at fashion. It is a huge part of my life and who I am, so why not make it my career?

One of the things I love so much about fashion is that it is truly limitless; there are no boundaries, no rules. Fashion hands us an invitation to be exactly who we want to be and let the world know it, without having to say a single word. Being a student in the VCUarts program, I have quickly learned that open-mindedness is key—especially in the world of fashion. In order to appreciate all the things fashion has to offer, it is crucial to understand the importance of diversity… and diversity is exactly what my campus is about. Because fashion is something I cherish, my eyes are always on the lookout for new inspiration. Everywhere I go in Richmond, something I haven’t seen before grabs my attention. I am constantly learning and growing just by watching, and for that, I am grateful to live in such a cool place. There really is no such thing as a dull moment!

If I were to describe my own personal style, it would be anywhere between simplistic, chic and somewhat sporty, but my approach is hard to define. After all, fashion is a means of expression. It all depends on what I am feeling on a given day. I like to shop at ASOS, American Apparel, Zara, Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom and places like such. Strangely, I am not a big fan of jewelry and handbags. I like my ensemble to be complete, but not overwhelmed by accessories. In this look, I am leaning more towards simple and casual. I am sporting a comfy ribbed sleeveless top paired with my go-to distressed skinny boyfriend jeans, which add the perfect amount of character to any outfit. To tie the look together, I am wearing a pair of strappy slide sandals with metal detailing. These give a touch of flare while complimenting the summer season.

I am so excited to share my take on fashion as I begin my journey as a Style Guru!
