STYLE GURU BIO: Aven Jackson

When I was younger, I was such a TV nerd and was addicted to cartoons and Jurassic Park. One fateful day I stumbled upon one of my favorite series…Project Runway. I was so amazed by how much thought and materials go into making a single dress. My favorite memory from the show was when contestants had to create high-end clothes fit for a cocktail party out of burlap sacks. It was incredible how designers could literally transform bland objects into unrecognizable pieces of art.

I became interested in photography in junior high. I remember going to the bookstore and buying Vogue magazines to look at the photography instead of the clothes. I wanted to become a fashion photographer and stylist like the ones from America’s Next Top Model. This show got me interested in the fashion industry in a different direction, where I could try to put together different elements such as makeup, accessories and clothes to create an innovative look. I pursued this hobby throughout high school and at the beginning of college focused on editorial and landscape photography.

I am completely honored and thrilled to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team. I enjoy taking photographs and learning about fashion on a daily basis in order to build my fabulous future wardrobe. I love helping my friends and family who ask me to pick out outfits for presentations, interviews and special occasions. I cannot wait to explore different styles that I find around me and learn something from great Fashionistas/os.

This outfit reflects my casual style and love for cold weather while on vacation at the lake house. I am all about comfort and layering especially when I am spending time walking outside. So why not personalize a jacket or pullover to make it truly yours by having a custom monogram or stencil? Many of my friends know me as a firm believer in wearing black leggings nearly with anything. Luckily I found these great pair of athletic running leggings that are fleece lined and don’t stretch out easily. Proper footwear is also important; what is winter without our staple boots? These shoes are fit for beautiful cloudy and rainy weather and inside next to a roaring fire.

A popular trend this season is thick and exaggerated knitwear such as sweaters, socks and scarves. During the winter, a Fashionista/o has to have a solid knit scarf to accessorize any outfit whether it’s for a trip to the grocery store or for a date looking at Christmas lights. I like having some kind of pop with my simpler outfits in order to dress it up with some glitz. On cold and rainy days, Fashionistas may want to wear something that pops like these BaubleBar earrings. They have a vintage look to them with modern glitz and glam that can brighten up any outfit from leggings and a T-shirt to a sleek cocktail dress.
