My name is Aubrie Evans and I am coming to you directly from the City of Brotherly Love. I recently moved here from the Big Apple to continue my education as a sophomore in Design and Merchandising for the fashion industry at Drexel University in Philadelphia. Being surrounded entirely by college students in the area called University City of one of the most historic metropolises in the country is truly thrilling.
I strongly believe that a person’s interests are very evident by the way that they dress. Culture, art, music, literature and even ways of thinking can all present themselves in the communication of style. I consider my clothing choices to be greatly inspired by many of my greatest passions in life. My style can be described as laid-back and bohemian, with an infusion of rock ‘n’ roll edge. I love looks that are easy while maintaining a certain cool factor. While in school in an urban area, I have learned so much about the significance of art. I find that contemporary art brings forth heavy emotion through visuals and greatly intrigues me. Whether I am attempting to create my own, or admiring the work of others, I can always count on art to influence me deeply. Music is also very important to me. It sets my mood in any situation, happy or sad. I adore donning vintage graphic tees and alluding to wild eras of classic rock in the 1960s, ’70s, and ’90s with items in my closet. Fashion is a never-ending cycle. A bell-bottom printed pant popular in the days of the Vietnam War protests may find its way back to the racks of Forever 21 tomorrow. The history of fashion is what creates a captivating storyline for me.
I also feel very privileged to have travelled a great deal in my life so far. I have had the opportunity to travel to remote locations both domestic and abroad. Whether it’s trekking up a tropical cliff in Hawaii or snowboarding down a white powdery mountain in Colorado, I’m always up for an adventure. I think these kinds of experiences shape who we are as people. I am so drawn to that free-spirited, bohemian lifestyle. I certainly hope to continue roaming the globe throughout my lifetime and career in order to gain even more amazing experiences.
This look truly embodies my love of juxtaposing styles. I paired a feminine white shift dress with a tough gold hardware-clad black leather vest for a high contrast look. Of course, I paired the look with classic Converse Chuck Taylor high tops and red lipstick because I’m simply obsessed! Chucks and lipstick may just be two of my all time favorite statements. Oh, and also jewelry! In my book, there is no such thing as too much jewelry. As an aspiring stylist, my word of advice is to “Find something you love to rock and completely own it. Make a strong impression of who you are through your clothing.”
