STYLE GURU BIO: Assata Terrell

My name is Assata Terrell and I am a junior at Columbia College Chicago. This is my first semester with CollegeFashionista and I am so excited to begin sharing and creating with the team! I am majoring in Fashion Business and minoring in Journalism. Despite being a fashion major, I mostly work on film and TV production sets as a costume designer.

I have been obsessed with fashion as far back as I can remember. I have been an avid reader of fashion and style publications. It started with me stealing my older cousins’ fashion magazines like Vogue, Interview, Harper’s Bazaar, Lucky and ELLE and reading them obsessively. My walls were covered with the latest trends and the freshest faces from the runway. And by the time I was in high school, I ended up in the world of fashion blogs as they started to creep up on the Internet in 2008. And while I’ve been an avid follower of the fashion blogosphere, I felt that it was finally time to join it myself.

My style has evolved so much over the years, but these days I like to play with the balance of masculinity and femininity and try to be as comfortable as I can. On a day-to-day basis, I like to wear things like Vans Old Skools with a cute dress or a vintage band T-shirt with a pair of fitted trousers. I finish off the look with a few layers of jewelry, such as a tiered necklace. I take a lot of inspiration from the British youth culture of the ’60s, as well as stars like Zoe Kravitz. I love mixing new, current pieces with vintage wear and seeing how they complement each other.

I’m so excited to be able to document different Fashionistas and Fashionistos around my campus and sharing them with you all!
